If you don't know them, think of a glass of coconut-milk blended (or blent) with The Shins after they've been cross-pollinated with some Architecture or Animal Collective; then that strained through a corroding sieve rendered from the fibres of Vampire Weekend and MGMT...ultimately creating something not necessarily as interesting for as long a period of time as any of the above, but still pretty good and which kept the electro-nonces thoroughly enthralled. There was a drum-synth, which was about an 8 on the 'cool' to 'really cool' scale.
Both tracks off their second and most recent album Sea Lion:
And then there was of Montreal.
Greatest night of my life, no exaggeration. There isn't that much to say; it lived up to the hype. Kevin Barnes sounds a lot more trans-gender live but that wasn't a bad thing. Interspersed throughout the psychosexual circus were appearances by numerous characters involved in various role-plays and choreographic feats; fighting, staged-blood-smearing, ferocious eating of fruit (this guy above), psychedellically impressionistic interactions with band members, etc.
We were close enough to read the set-list taped to the ground next to Kevin Barnes' effeminate left foot, which Jack snatched out of the air as it left the mod-hands of bassist Davey Pierce at the end. They played almost all of Hissing Fauna, a lot of Skeletal Lamping, some Sunlandic and a new track called Tender Fax.
I haven't linked anything because you should just go and discover the greatness for yourself.
And we left pasted in sweat-confetti and glitter. Here endeth the greatness.
